About Michael Thomas
Michael Thomas is Honorary President of Strategic Intelligentia bringing with him over 40 years of international experience in fostering trade relations and developing business at a senior level in the Middle East.
Michael had previously worked for the Kuwait Shipping Company, later to become UASC, and returned to the UK as Director of the Committee for Middle East Trade – The UK Government-owned private sector Advisory Group on trade with the Middle East North Africa Turkey, and Iran. Te Committee for Middle East Trade played a vital role in connecting UK businesses working with Government with the Middle East at the time working with the FCO and DTI.
Michael was Director of Arab-British Chamber of Commerce from 2002-2012 and was appointed Director-General of the Middle East Association which under his leadership, had its most successful period representing 70% of all UK businesses working with the Middle East, and North Africa, Turkey, and Iran. During this time Michael was responsible for organising high-level matchmaking of UK-Middle East specialist industries and businesses across MENA with their counterparts, and the facilitation of UK-Middle East partnerships, joint ventures, and investment.
Michael was also appointed the British Government’s special adviser on trade with Iran and saw UK export trade with Iran reach its peak 2000/ 2003 since the revolution. After visiting Afghanistan on behalf of the UK Government and meeting with Ashraf Ghani and Abdulla Abdulla, Michael authored a comprehensive report on the potential for UK trade.
